Starting in 1993, I began my broadcast journey working for a large church in the media department. I started off running graphics for their weekly services and live programming to a local channel. Soon after, I began tape to tape editing later that year. I found I had a knack for this! I knew this is what I wanted to do for a living and I put every waking moment learning the engineering behind live television production. A Broadcast engineer really took me under their wing and taught me the ins and outs of satellite and microwave live transmission systems.
From 1993-2000 I worked for various production companies in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. I started working for a local production company and was introduced to corporate events in addition to live studio directing and technical directing that I was already performing.
My mind was blown as I started to wrap my head around widescreen presentations, large sound systems and moving lights in a ballroom setting. This. This was it! This is what I wanted to do now!!! I worked for 4 years traveling to other countries as well as all of the United States doing corporate events. In 2004, I was let go from this production company and was forced into the freelance market by default. This is where I began to spread my wings. I was working for Fox Sports, the Dallas Mavericks, the Dallas Stars, and the list goes on... I loved live broadcast again. The gear was different. The landscape was different and my thirst for knowledge was ever growing. I worked in the live production space for the next 3 years and then I decided to give corporate events another look. The technology was moving fast in the high resolution and engineering of corporate events. I worked freelance in every hotel and convention center in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex until 2011.
In January of 2011, I was hired to be the tour video engineer for George Strait. For me, this was a hybrid mix of live production and music entertainment. I worked as the video engineer for 2 years and then I was made the Video Crew Chief the last two years of my touring life. It was an amazing experience that I treasure to this day! During this same time, I was also hired by J&S Audio Visual as a traveling video engineer. When I wasn't on the road with George Strait, I was on the road or in the shop at J&S. Life was good! George decided to call it "quits" in 2014 and my natural progression was to move into a full time role with J&S. In 2016, I was promoted to Director of Video at J&S and ran the video department for show services. I was able to impart the skills and knowledge I have to those just starting out in my department as well as engineering medium to large events.
In December of 2017, I decided to leave J&S and start a new rental and staging company called Vital Show Solutions. January 2018, Vital Show Solutions is born and I was hired as Vice President of Technical Operations. I was tasked with making sure the company moved in the right direction with our technology and purchases. It's a dream job! I also travel as a video engineer throughout the country.
April of 2026, things changed again for me... I became part owner of Vital Show Solutions! This is what I had worked for the last 8 years for! A piece of the pie and a path to retirement! A well deserved nod from the CEO .
I am still doing the duties of VP of Technical Ops and video engineering as well as making purchases for the company. I am working towards coming off of the road and helping to run Vital Show Solutions from a more birdseye view and to help the company grow!
